Charleroi native Sgt. First Class Anthony S. Armstrong was recently promoted to master sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He entered the U.S. Army in January 2008 and attended Basic Combat Training between his junior and senior year of high school. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Advance Individual Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He has served in a variety of positions and assignments culminating in his present assignment as an investigator for the U.S. Army Claims Service, HQDA OTJAG, Ft. Meade, MD, and chief paralegal NCO for the 150th Legal Operations Detachment.

He formerly served as a mobilization paralegal NCO; Medical and Physical Evaluation Board paralegal (Office of Soldiers’ Counsel), 6th Legal Operations Detachment; Brigade, Battalion and Company Paralegal; paralegal for the Detainee Review Board Convening Authority Legal Advisor (Task Force 435); Member of the File Transition Team (Joint Legal Center); member of the JLC Afghan Review Board Team; and Night Battle Non-Commissioned Officer of Tactical Operations Center.

His assignments include: Personnel, Plans, and Training Office (PPTO) Office of the Judge Advocate General (OTJAG), The Pentagon, Washington, D.C.; 322d Civil Affairs Brigade, Fort Shafter Flats, Hawaii; Office of Soldiers’ Counsel, Joint Base Lewis-Mc-Chord, Washington; 6th Legal Operations Detachment, JBLM, Washington; 151st Legal Operations Detachment, Alexandria, Va., 304th Military Police Co., Bluefield, W.Va.; and the 336 Military Police Battalion, Pittsburgh.

Armstrong was also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He completed Air Assault School at Camp Swift, Texas. He graduated from the Master Leader Course (DL); Senior Leader Course as the Distinguished Honor Graduate, Charlottesville, Va.; Advanced Leaders Course, Charlottesville, Va.; and Warrior Leaders Course, Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

He graduated from Charleroi Area High School, attended Washington and Jefferson College to pursue a degree in business administration/ pre-law and graduated from American Military University magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

He currently attends the University of Baltimore School of Law as a 3L (evening program), ranked 15 of 46 in his class.

His awards and decorations include: the U.S. Army Staff Identification Badge, Army Commendation Medal (with three oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with silver and bronze oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (with four oak leaf cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with bronze star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with “M” device), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the NATO Medal.

He resides in Hanover, Md., with his wife Alison Armstrong and their dog Delta.
