Belle Vernon blasts Union Twp.

Belle Vernon’s Senior Legion baseball team traveled to Unity Township Saturday and left with an emphatic 17-3 victory.

The game was tied at 3-3, but Belle Vernon managed to tack on two runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and seven more in the top of the seventh to turn it into a blowout.

Jake Wessel finished 3 for 3 with an RBI and drew two walks and Kaden Faychak went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and drew three walks to lead the Leopards. On the mound, five pitchers combined to allow just three hits and walk four.

Charleroi Post 22 12, Yough Sr. Legion 2 (5) Tyler O’Neil went 3 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Charleroi to a win on Sunday. Jake Beveridge, Joe Campbell and James Nash also added two RBIs each in the win.

Tyler Fisher earned the win, giving up four hits and two runs in four innings of work. He also struck out eight batters.

Yough’s Sammy Smalich put up two of the squad’s four hits and drove a run in.

Charleroi exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early as Cole Sleasman gave up eight runs without recording an out.

California Black 14, California Burgundy 13 (8U Pinto) California Black knocked off its California Burgundy counterparts in a 14-13 thriller Saturday in Pinto 8U Mon Valley Youth Baseball action. The victors were led by Ethan Garofalo, who hit for the cycle and piled up six RBIs, and CJ Null, who added four hits behind him.

For California Burgundy, Trenton Gazdick put up four hits while Austin Lent hit an inside the park home run.
