YOUTH SPORTS CORNER

California MS tops Charleroi Brandon Meier went 4 for 4 with a home run and three runs scored as the California Middle School baseball team claimed a 6-4 win over Charleroi Tuesday.

Caleb Ross finished with two hits and a pair of RBIs for the Trojans.

Ian Grodz added a pair of hits and an RBI for California.

Meier pitched five innings and allowed three hits and three runs to claim the win. Owen Rechichar got the final two outs in relief of Ross to earn the save.

Mason Richardson took the loss for Charleroi. Luke Henderson went 2 for 3 for the Cougars.

Cal Bronco, Charleroi tie

In a meeting of two of the top teams, it was only fitting a winner couldn’t be decided Wednesday.

Charleroi (7-1-1) scored one run in the top of the 7th inning to tie the game and that’s where things ended after eight innings.

Peyton Brown and Gabe Phillips each led California (5-1-1) with three hits, with Brown doubling twice and Phillips adding a two-bagger.

Phillips drove in a pair of runs while Ryan Neil added a pair of doubles and an RBI for Cal.

Ian Grodz threw 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight. He allowed five runs, two earned, as his defense committed five errors.
