Gerald W. Mellinger, 82 of Bentleyville, Pa., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Washington Hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1942, in Monongahela, son of the late Walter and Margaret Cowan Mellinger. Gerald was a 1960 graduate of Monongahela High School and earned an associate degree from California University. Mr. Mellinger was employed as a power control supervisor at Allegheny Power for 42 years and later worked at PJM Greensburg for six years, retiring in 2008. He loved to volunteer his time. He coached Bentworth Youth Soccer for 10 years and served as the league’s president. Gerald was a model train enthusiast and enjoyed gardening and traveling. On April 20, 1963, he married Sherry H. Sterner Mellinger, who survives. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. Surviving are three children, Terry Jones (Jeff) of Columbus, Ind., Merry Lazzari (Matt) of Bethel Park, Pa., and Jerry Mellinger of Rices Landing, Pa.; four grandchildren, Dylan Jones, Nicholas Jones, Hayley Lazzari and Jeremy Lazzari; a sister, Audrey Thomas of Jefferson Hills, Pa.; a brother, Rick Mellinger of Bloomington, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at GREENLEE’S BENTLEYVILLE FUNERAL HOME, 619 Main St., Bentleyville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, with Pastor James Kimmel officiating.
