Dorothy C. Grzywinski Wasco – Belle Vernon

By obits

Dorothy C. Grzywinski Wasco, 94, of Belle Vernon, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024, at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born June 10, 1929, in Everson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Victoria Zajac Grzywinski. A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 70 years, Mrs. Wasco was a devout member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. She worked as a quality inspector for Anchor Hocking Glass until she was married. Dorothy, or “Dottie” as she was known by friends and family, loved her flowers and was an exceptional gardener. Spring was her favorite season, seeing all of God’s nature in bloom. She strongly held her Polish heritage and traditions, passing them down to her children. Being one of 13 children, Sundays were a time to visit siblings after Mass to enjoy good Polish food, polka music and laughter. Dottie delighted in playing games with her family, especially Scrabble. She enjoyed word and jigsaw puzzles, picnics at Idlewild Park, vacationing with family, daily walks, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As an animal lover, there were always dogs and other pets in the home. Having a generous heart, Dottie was a committed lifelong blood donor. She was awarded two golden blood drop pins (signifying over 100 pints donated) that were fashioned into earrings. Every Christmas season, she would bake hundreds and hundreds of cookies, rolls, and other baked goods, and gift them to friends, family, neighbors, and the church. She is survived by her five children, Kenneth and Diane Wasco of Bergholz, Ohio, Kathy Gray of North Charleroi, Ron and Mary Ann Wasco of Tyrone, Pa., Bill and Lynn Wasco of Lawrence, Pa., Melanie and Charles Criste of Loveland, Colo.; sister Frances Yanity of Port Vue, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Rachel Gray, Matt Gray (Kara Rice Gray), Leland Gray (Mary “Abbi”), Cassie Wasco, Jack Wasco, Bodie Criste and Emmeline Criste, and three great-grandchildren, Madilynn Gray (and Alex and Andrew Rice). She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Wasco. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayers of transfer will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by a noon funeral Mass at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Rodolfo Mejia as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Condolences accepted at the funeral home’s website, www.parzynskifuneralhome.com.
