Leps pounce on Jaguars; Frazier hammers Crusaders

The Belle Vernon baseball team reminded Class 4A that they’re going to be a force to be reckoned with when the playoffs come around in a couple of weeks.

The Leopards pounded out 18 hits and scored 11 combined runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings of a 13-5 rout at Thomas Jefferson Wednesday.

Cole Matusik, Lucas Judy and Kole Doppelheuer each finished with three hits and Adam LaCarte added a pair of hits and three RBIs for the Leopards (13-2).

Parker Lind picked up the win after throwing 4 2/3 innings. He allowed eight hits, four runs and struck out seven.

Dom Metz took the loss for the Jaguars after allowing 12 hits and nine runs, six earned, in just under five innings.

Matusik and Max Kostelnik each added doubles for BVA. Johnny Bellissimo and Connor Bergman each added a pair of hits.

Brady Hodge tripled and drove in a run for the Jaguars.

The Leopards host Yough today in their annual Military Appreciation Game at 7 p.m. The Jaguars host Woodland Hills Monday.

Softball
Frazier 16, Bishop Canevin 0

The Commodores had no problems cruising past the Crusaders with a three-inning win Wednesday in their home opener. Of their 16 runs, 10 came in the second inning.

Frazier (7-0, 7-0) has outscored section opponents, 81-1, so far this season.

Addison Hiles was perfect through three innings, striking out eight of nine batters faced.

Claire Domonkos had a pair of hits and drove in a team-high four runs. Grace Polkabla had two hits for the Commodores.

Grace Vaughn and Jayanna Ciferno each tripled and had two RBIs and Gracen Hartman added an RBI double.

Maddy Salisbury and Hiles combined for three runs batted in for Frazier.

The Commodores host St. Joseph Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Elizabeth Forward 11, Belle Vernon 1

Julia Resnik homered twice and Hannah Evans added another as the Warriors hammered host Belle Vernon in a Section 2-4A contest.

Addy Nigut finished with three hits and joined Resnik and Evans with three RBIs each.

Shelby Telegdy got the win for the Warriors (10-1, 8-0), tossing a complete game with 10 strikeouts.

Katie Sokol was a bright spot for the Leopards (11-4, 6-4) with two hits, including a homer.

BVA is back in action Monday at Albert Gallatin. The Warriors will host the Colonials Friday.
