Council debuts Play Smithton facility

By Stacy Wolford

For the MVI
Smithton Mayor Christine Tutena announced that work has finished at Play Smithton, and the public is now able to enjoy the improvements.
The facility is located at 105 Skyline Drive in Smithton.
The completed facility provides play structures for both big kids and little kids, a two-bay swing set, free standing net climber featuring three levels of climbing, balancing and exploration complete with a Mighty Descent slide that multiple kids can use at once.
All children and adults are welcome as other features include a handicapped accessible Whirl, a lea-shaped shade structure and a .1 mile paved walking path.
The improvements took almost six years to complete at a cost of nearly $500,000, Tutena stated.
Funding for this project was provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources through the Bureau of Recreations and Conservation, Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund and the Community Conservation Partnerships Program.
