Thomas A. Gilchrist, 88, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2024. A son of the late Thomas A. and Ruth Finley Gilchrist, he was born in Belle Vernon on Nov. 20, 1935.  A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church and Journey By Grace Free Methodist Church. He was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel as the general superintendent of maintenance at the Monessen and Allenport plants. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he was the owner and operator of a local cabinetry shop, Kitchen Lifters. Tom enjoyed woodworking, golfing, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patsy Weaver Gilchrist; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Vicki Gilchrist of Rostraver Township and Brian and Jane Gilchrist of Belle Vernon; a daughter and son in-law, Cheryl and Dr. Michael Mendicino of Belle Vernon; eight grandchildren, Thomas (Laura) Gilchrist, Timothy Gilchrist, Michael Mendicino, Kelsey (Curt) Young, Tyler Gilchrist, Taylor Gilchrist, Kaylee Gilchrist and Samantha Mendicino; and five great-grandchildren, Ray Gilchrist, Rosie Gilchrist, D’Mareo Gilchrist, Clark Young and Sloane Young. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held at Ferguson Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, with Pastors William Bailey and Tom Ravasio co-officiating.
