Mon Valley escapes worst of area flooding
Staff and wire reports
Torrential rains led to major flooding in the evening and overnight hours Thursday and into Friday morning, but it appears the Mon Valley was spared this time around. Record-breaking rainfall left much of the region under a flood warning through Friday evening. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh also issued a wind advisory for much of the region through 7 a.m. today. Saturated soil could allow trees to fall more easily.
