Raymond D. Popp, 97, of Rostraver Township, died Thursday, April 11, 2024. Born in Rostraver Township on March 14, 1927, he was the son of the late John D. and Camelia Rousseau Popp. In 1949, Raymond started working for Robert Haury Decorating Company in Monessen, where he painted and decorated many stores and churches throughout the Mon Valley. In 1954, Raymond and his brother, Cliff, opened a paint and wallpaper store in Charleroi, working there until he sold his share in 1976. In 1978, he began the Raymond Popp Painting and Wallcovering Co., working throughout the tri-state area. Raymond was a member of Journey by Grace Church in Rostraver. He was a past member of Pricedale Union Church, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice fishing and was very enthusiastic about working on family genealogy. He started the Rostraver Historical Society and served as president for many years. He is survived by his son, John Eric (Leslie) Popp of Rostraver; daughters, Janet (Larry) Mandarino of Monessen and Connie (James) Swailes of Martinsburg, W.Va.; daughter-in-law, Linda Popp of Monessen; grandchildren, Matthew (Carola) Mandarino, Philip Mandarino, Jordon Popp, Cayla Popp, Chris (Katie) Swailes, Sarah Swailes and Kelly (Richard) Jones; and great-grandchildren, Cadence Mandarino, Colin Mandarino, James Swailes, Henry Swailes and Emily Swailes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel E. (Furlong) Popp; son, David L. Popp; and granddaughter, Caitlin E. Swailes. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Thomas Ravasio officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
