Clyde L. Horton, 90, of Donora, passed away Tuesday April 9, 2024, at Mountain View Senior Living in Greensburg. He was born in Kings Mill, Ark., on July 14, 1933, son of the late John Horton and the late Mary Vaughn Horton. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Horton, on July 16, 2021; two sisters, Maxine Horton and Alice Kosh; and two brothers, Ray Horton and Roy Horton. Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Clyde (Margaret) Horton of New Stanton; two grandsons, Camren and Caden Horton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Clyde was a graduate of Donora High School, Class of 1952, where he was a standout on the football and baseball teams. He proudly attended the University of Miami on a football scholarship. Clyde fondly recalled his days in the Boys’ Brigade. He proudly served in the military from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of the Army’s 287th Field Artillery Battalion in Dachau, Germany. He went on to become an electrician and retired from U.S. Steel Corp. He also spent time working at Jurik and Jurik Beer Distributor in Donora where he enjoyed an Iron City from time to time. His pride and joy were his two grandsons, Camren and Caden Horton. He loved watching his son and grandsons play multiple sports over the years along with celebrating every holiday, birthday, and milestone of their lives. Clyde enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, his daily walks, playing cards and was a member of several local clubs including The Elks and Catholic War Veterans. He recently battled Parkinsons and dementia over the last few years. The team at Mountain View Senior Living, led by Amy Light-Ahlborn, showed incredible compassion and kindness while providing exceptional care for Mr. Horton and will always be remembered by his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, with Father Robert Hanna officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Cemetery.
