Charles Byrne, 78, of West Newton, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in his home. A son of the late Dale and Helen Byrne, he was born on Nov. 22, 1945, in North Charleroi. Charles was employed as an electrician for U.S. Steel, Clairton Works, for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Charles was a “Jack-of-all-trades” who could fix anything. He loved working with computers, the outdoors and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jeannine Alonzo Byrne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Jayme Chilzer of West Newton, and Lisa and Bill Kearns of Charleroi; three sons, Eddie Sullenberger of West Newton, Charles Byrne Jr. and his spouse of Wyano, and Jason Sullenberger of Charleroi; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Violet Behanna of Monongahela and Betty and Chris Dannels of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Emily Byrne, Kaley Byrne, William Chilzer, Hailey Sullenberger, Kaleb Sullenberger, Katelyn Chilzer, Jerimiah Kearns, Alona Sullenberger and Keegan Sullenberger; two great-grandchildren, Jivani Haines and Sofia Sullenberger; and his little buddy, Kody. There will be no public visitation or services.
