Kolano’s walk-off double leads Rams over Hillers

A week after the Ringgold baseball team came from behind to earn an 8-7 win over Charleroi, the Rams earned another 8-7 comeback victory over Trinity Wednesday.

This time, the Rams (2-1) carried a 6-5 lead into the seventh inning and surrendered a run, bringing the contest to extra innings. In the eighth, Trinity (1-4) made the score 7-6, but Ringgold’s Alex Kolano was the walkoff hero as the victors added two runs in the bottom of the eighth to notch another win.

“It’s awesome. Alex is the guy we want in that spot, and he came up big,” Ringgold coach Jeff Lander said. “He’s a great player. He understands the game well; that’s fundamental. Runner at third, less than two outs, we need a fly ball and that’s what he gave us.

“This is kind of what we’ve been preaching to the boys since the winter about buying in and never giving up. When we started practicing and they’d make some mistakes, they’d get down on themselves and each other, so the coaching staff and I have really been preaching positive reinforcement.”
