McKeesport and Indiana Area met for the second time of the season Wednesday night, and while the beginning of the matchup was different than the first one, the result held the same as the Tigers found a way to overcome a slow start and earn a resounding 48-27 victory in the second round of the Class 5A PIAA playoffs.
When McKeesport (23-4) and Indiana (20-8) met in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead and staved off a late rally from the Indians, winning 50-41. On Wednesday night, Indiana was firmly in control of the game for the first 14 minutes, leading 17-5, before the Tigers rallied right before halftime.
It was McKeesport’s full-court pressure and a change in offensive fortune that flipped the game on its head, allowing the Tigers to outscore the Indians 43-10 the rest of the way as the victors snapped out of a cold streak and forced several turnovers.
