Chris Lee McCrory, 75, of Calabash, N.C., formerly of Bayport, N.Y., and Allenport, Pa., passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late John and LaVerne Burry McCrory was born in 1948 in Charleroi. He was a 1966 graduate of Charleroi Area High School, where he was a member of the boys varsity soccer team and earned All-WPIAL honors. Chris was inducted into the Charleroi Boys Soccer Hall of Fame. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from California State College (now PennWest University) and a Master of Arts from Adelphi University. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Chris spent his career teaching elementary school in the Bayport-Blue Point UFSD on Long Island, N.Y., and coached the Bayport-Blue Point high school golf team for many years. A member of the Sayville Yacht Club, he was a competitive sailor. His other passions throughout his life included hiking, listening to music, and watching his favorite sports teams. Chris and his wife Joanne retired to Calabash, N.C., in 2004, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with good friends. Although he battled health issues, he lived a full life, impressing everyone with his tenacity and keep-going attitude. He was a respected member of the Brunswick community, a kind and loyal friend to many, and was known for his integrity, his sense of humor, and his love of telling stories. Chris leaves behind many who loved him, including his wife of 45 years, Joanne Boss Burke McCrory; daughters, Diana Burke of Marina Del Rey, Calif., and Kathryn (Andy) Burke Maynard of Little River, S.C.; and grandson, Jack Mosier of Alhambra, Calif. He is also survived by a brother, Jon (Lucretia) McCrory; sisters, Judy (Riki) Paich and Jeannie (Gene) Fox; sisters-in-law, Lucinda (Jon) Lindsay, Laura (Craig) Stewart, and Janet (Steve) Walsh many nieces and nephews, as well as many supportive friends and neighbors. He will be deeply missed by all. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at BRUNSWICK FUNERAL SERVICE, 5229 Ocean Hwy., W. Shallotte, N.C. 28470. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Henry Rehder officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.brunswickfuneralservice.com.
