Trailing at the half by 15 points to IUP, the message from Vulcans head coach Jess Strom was simple.
“Just be us.”
The Vulcans found their intensity in the second half and rallied to a 61-60 win over their rival at the Convocation Center Wednesday.
“We were getting outworked in a lot of phases in the game,” Strom said. “The biggest thing I saw was that we were taking terrible shots. We’re not an outside-shooting team. We needed to attack the basket because I thought we had an advantage inside.”
The catalyst for the Vulcans’ comeback was junior forward Allycia Harris. Harris scored 20 of her 22 points in the second half, aggressively driving to the basket from the high post and wing.
“There’s not many players in this league that can guard her out there,” Strom said. “She gets her opening and she attacks.”
