Donald Irvin Scagline, 89, of New Eagle, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, in his home. He was born March 22, 1934, in Monongahela, the son of Joseph A. and Ruth Griffith Scagline. Don was a 1952 graduate of Monongahela High School. He was a peace time veteran having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of the River Hill Church of Christ. Don retired from Combustion Engineering in East Monongahela. He coached softball for the Hilltop Bar and baseball for Monongahela Little League. He loved the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and his train sets. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He especially loved singing karaoke and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Jane Stone Scagline, with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage on June 23, 2023; sons, Donald (Carole) Scagline of Elizabeth, Dale (Laura) Scagline of Carroll Township, Jimmy (Shari) Scagline of Monongahela; daughters, Debbie Bostek of New Eagle, Vicki Ellsworth of Victory Hill, Kelly (John) Olexik of New Eagle, and Sharon Sypherd of New Eagle, who was like a daughter to him; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Sarah Brizzi, Elizabeth Munger, Mary White, John Scagline and Joseph A. Scagline Jr. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the River Hill Church of Christ, 2105 River Hill Road, Monongahela, with the Rev. Paul Eisaman officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., Monongahela. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
