Mary Ruth Filippelli, 91, of Monongahela, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, in Grandview Estates, Elizabeth. She was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Accident, Md., the daughter of Russ and Virgie Luella Sisler Sliger and stepdaughter of Alberta Stewart Sliger. Mary was employed at a variety of places during her life. In her younger years, she was a carhop at Eat’n Park, and later worked at Valley Cleaners in Monongahela, Haven Crest and Jefferson Hills Nursing Homes and at Clevepak Box Factory in Donora. She retired as a custodian from Ringgold School District. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Monongahela. She enjoyed spending time with her whole family. She loved tending to her flowers, birdwatching and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She is survived by her son, Alfred (Nancy) Filippelli of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Anna Filippelli (Joe Podrosky) of Eighty Four; two grandsons, Jason and Matthew Filippelli; granddaughter, Rebecca (Sam) Richardson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Filippelli, who died Sept. 9, 2021; brother, Earl Sliger; and stepsister, Violet “Jean” Ritchey. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, with Pastor Kenneth Kirby officiating. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 601 W. Main St., Monongahela, PA 15063. The family would like to thank the staff at Grandview Estates and OSPTA Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided Mary.
