Joseph ‘Joe’ Louvar – Wauwatosa, Wis.

Joseph “Joe” Louvar, passed away Dec. 11, 2023, at 88 years old. Joe was the wife of Donora native B. Diane Wassil Louvar, who passed away June 25, 2023. Diane’s schooling included St. Dominic’s grade school, Donora High School, Mount Mercy College (Carlow University), Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon) where she met Joe, and Wayne State University in Michigan. Joe also excelled in education; he went to De La Salle High School in Chicago, Ill., and received a bachelor’s degree from Missouri School of Mining and Metallurgy, a master’s degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon) and a doctorate from Wayne State University in Michigan. He retired after 35 years as a chemical engineer from BASF in Wyandotte, Mich., and, after 18 years as a professor from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. They lived in Michigan and spent their final years in Wisconsin. Joe and Diane loved their family, were well-educated and did charitable work, including working at an orphanage in Oklahoma with the Catholic Extension Society. They had a strong Catholic faith and continued volunteering into their last 10 years. They were active members in the Lay Camillian Family. Joe and Diane are survived by four children, Joyce (Gary Chester), Edmund (Susan), George (Rebecca) and Claire (Cristino Canga); eight grandchildren, Grayson, Jack, Elizabeth, Melissa, Diane, Michael, Emma and Aidan; Joyce (Wassil) Ryan and family; nieces and nephews and their families.
