Glassport council fielded several questions from residents asking about funding for the new borough building.
Glassport officials had to search for a temporary home for borough offices last March as the building they were in had major issues, including a leaking roof that was creating problems with mold and mildew. The section of the building that once housed the police department was also in danger of collapsing.
The new complex will be located at 12 Monongahela Avenue. During the public comment portion of Tuesday’s meeting, former Glassport mayor Maryann Bradley asked about the impact the new building will have on the borough’s budget.
Council President Anthony Colecchi provided Bradley with a copy of the borough budget and assured her that Glassport did not take on any debt to fund the project.
Borough Manager Elaina Skiba explained they were able to fund the project with several government grants. She said the building is fully funded and will not require Glassport to take on any debt.
