Ethel Rose Novota Shupe – Ohio, formerly of Rostraver Township

Ethel Rose Novota Shupe, 98, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Ohio on Feb. 16, 2024. She was born in Yukon, Pa., to Robert and Josephine Novota and resided in Belle Vernon for most of her life. Ethel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Glenn W. Shupe; and siblings, Virginia DeTorres and John, Joseph and Francis Morvetz. She was a beloved mother to daughter, Beverly (Richard) Kreuter; grandmother to Krista (Alan) Chen and Kelly (Scott) Cook; great-grandmother to Laura Beth (Mike) Kalvas, Max Chen, Felicity Cook, Tessa Chen and Alex Cook; and great-great-grandmother to Eleanor Kalvas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ethel was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She also worked many jobs throughout her life, but was most proud working at Robertshaw’s doing her part for the war effort. Ethel was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church for 78 years. She enjoyed teaching both Sunday and Bible school, helping organize the church library and singing in the choir. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, followed by a noon funeral service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
