Essie Mae Googer was born Oct. 19, 1919, to the late Mr. Carlton and Willie Mae Henderson of Atlanta, Ga. She attended public school in Atlanta, Ga., and Booker T. Washington High School. She was united in marriage to Henry Moses in 1938, and to their union one son, Henry Jr. was born. Essie and her son Henry went to Pennsylvania to live in 1939, where she met and married William C. Googer some years later. He preceded her in death in 1972. They belonged to St. Paul Baptist Church of Donora, where they sang in the choir together. She was Matron of the Eastern Star O&S Chapter No. 99 Deborah, Heroines of Jericho. St. Elk Keystone Temple No. 92 Donora, and Omega Chapter Pittsburgh. She returned to Georgia after her husband’s death to care for her parents. She joined Andrews Chapel Church in Jonesboro, Ga., where her parents were serving, and served on the stewardess board serving communion. After her parents’ death, Essie joined Wesley Chapel Church, which was closer to her home. There she also served communion as a stewardess. She was most recently a member of Browns Hill Baptist Church of Monroe, Ga. She leaves to treasure in her memory one son, Henry Moses Jr. (Darlene); grandchildren, Timothy Moses, Colleen Moses, Alishia Morrissette and Anita Tolliver; great-grandchildren, Robert, Leon, Todd, Jeremy, Brittani, Stettani, Alyssa, Calvin, Najee, Jonathon and Frank; 18 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandson, Kashton; and a host of family and friends.
