By obits

James F. Dumm, 76, of Charleroi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024. Born on May 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Franklin J. and Anna Marie Dumm. He taught in the Elizabeth Forward School District for 34 years and was recognized as an EF “Special Educator” by the EF Alumni and Friends Hall of Fame in 2021. Jim played football at Youngstown State and finished at Waynesburg College, where he received many accolades. He briefly played for the NFL’s Baltimore Colts and the Chicago Fire of the World Football League. He coached for over 35 years and had stints at California, Elizabeth Forward, Ringgold, Clairton and his beloved Charleroi. He also spent a year as offensive line coach at Waynesburg College. He was twice named Pittsburgh Steelers/NFL Coach of the Week, in 1998 and 2002. He was chosen as Century Conference Coach of the Year in 1998 and was so proud to be inducted into the Tri-County Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. Jim is survived by his wife, Marian Dumm, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in July; his sons, Jeffrey Dumm and wife Carrie, of Scottdale, and Jared Dumm and wife Anne of Baldwin; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Trystan “T.J”, Ninelle, Lena and Landon; sister-in-law, Joanne Dumm; niece, Catherine Ann Dumm; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many loyal friends, colleagues, coaches and players whom he loved very much. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Annette Miller; brother, Paul Dumm; and his cherished daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Dumm. His go-to phrase was “Always tell them you love them.” He did that and now we say, “We love you too, Coach.”  Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at CARL J.
