Frances Annette Ambrozich Sobek, 98, of Washington Township, Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024. Born Aug. 26, 1925, in Gillespie, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Prunk Ambrozich. Frances graduated from Marion High School in 1943, then from Douglas Business School of Charleroi in 1945; upon her graduation she worked at the Allenport plant of Pittsburgh Steel as secretary to the work’s accountant. In later years, she worked as a clerk at the United Dairy Farm Store in Belle Vernon. After many years as a homemaker, Frances excelled in cooking and baking. Each holiday she proudly continued the tradition of her Slovenian heritage by baking delicious potica and paska bread. She was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, a member of SNPJ Lodge 729 and a life member of St. Sebastian Church. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Jane Sobek of Washington Township; loving son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Deana Sobek of Perryopolis; granddaughter, Alexa Sobek- Fiumara and husband Michael of Pittsburgh; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful felines, Jinx and Miss Kitty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus H. Sobek; two brothers, Matthew Shirley and Joseph Shirley; sisters, Mary Jane Schwenk and Rosemarie Winship; and an infant sister, Amelia Ambrozich. Frances was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother who always put others before herself. She survived the Great Depression, World War II and the COVID pandemic. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayers of transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant.
