Charleroi councilman says trash complaints continue to pile up

Issues with trash collection are still plaguing the Magic City, as one councilman said he continues to receive complaints from residents.
Last month, residents and some business went weeks without having trash removed from their homes and storefronts from Big’s Sanitation.
In September, Big’s Sanitation was sold to Ben Woods of Pittsburgh.
Though the trucks and other vehicles are still marked and operating with the same name, the new company is Earthwise Environmental Solutions, LLC.
Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek said the borough had been aware of the issues and was working with the company to make sure problems were resolved.
While some issues were addressed, there are still a handful of issues and a few larger questions to be answered: Did the company breach its contract, and if so, what will the borough do about it?
Sanitation was one of the first items up for discussion on Wednesday.
Councilman Larry Celaschi, who has been vocal about the complaints, said he is still receiving many phone calls from frustrated residents.
