Earl Robert Brown Sr., 89, of Belle Vernon, went home to be with the Lord on Tues-day, Jan. 30, 2024, at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born June 10, 1934, to the late Paul Brown and Barbara Ann Ross. While in the Navy, he met and married his first wife, Estella Henderson Brown. To this union were born six children. He later married the late Shirley Anthony Brown, to whom he was married until her passing on Jan. 4, 2020. Earl attended Monessen City School District until he decided to join the U.S. Navy on July 18, 1951. He served until July 17, 1959, and was honorably discharged. During his time of service, he served in the Korean War. After discharge, he moved back home to Monessen and worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. In 1962, he and his family moved to Philadelphia. There, he was hired by the U.S. Postal Service while also working for the Philadelphia School District. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1994 and the Philadelphia School District with over 20 years of service. He attended Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, where he was ordained as a deacon. He enjoyed and loved his family, football and traveling. In addition to his parents and wife, Earl was preceded in death by his son, Clarence Brown; and his siblings, Walter Lee Brown Sr., Shirley Brown Lomax, Helen Brown Hughes, Sylvia Brown and Paul Brown. Earl leaves to cherish his memories his children, Clayton Brown, Earl Brown Jr., Barry Brown, Reuben (Catherine) Brown Sr. and Sandra (Craig) Sloan; stepson, Michael Anthony; his sister, Henrietta Brown; sister-in-law, Delores Lippencott Brown; 15 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, with a funeral service to follow at Whole Truth COGIC, 1004 McKean Ave., Donora, PA 15033 with Elder Reuben Brown officiating. Interment will be at Chelten Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM R. TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME.
