As Fallowfield Township supervisors update their emergency response plan this year, they are also considering investing in handheld radios for employees.
Chairman Bruce Smith said fellow township supervisor Earl Sadler and members of the road crew have been testing high-efficient hand-held radios to see how helpful they could be in the event of an emergency.
Smith said there are few areas in the township where technology and some cell phone service providers do not get adequate reception.
“There are a few areas that drop signal,” Smith said.
If something were to happen in a dead zone, or if all cell towers were down for whatever reason, it would make it impossible to communicate with each other while addressing the emergency.
