Alexander Kubic Jr., 86, of Mt. Pleasant, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 28, 2024, at his home. Alex was born April 10, 1937, in Charleroi, son of the late Alexander “Alec” and Mary Shelpinsky Kubic. Alex graduated from Charleroi High School in 1955 and received a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. After graduation, he completed his active duty obligation in the Army Reserve and then went to work for the U.S. Steel Corp. at its Homestead Works as an alloy plate metallurgist. He then went to the Bettis Atomic Power Lab as an associate engineer and worked on the development of a new surface ship nuclear reactor. He ultimately completed his working career with Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. at its Allenport Plant and retired in 1999 as the superintendent of metallurgy and quality assurance. Alex was preceded in death by his first wife, Adrienne, in 1983; and a son, David, in 2014. Surviving are his wife, Frances “Tancy” Gesinski Kubic; a daughter, Andrea and her husband, David Moody of Springfield, Va.; a son John and wife, Kristine, of Glenshaw; stepsons, Terry Gesinski and wife, Mary Ann, of Mt. Pleasant and Gary Gesinski and his wife, Cindy, of Fort Myers, Fla; also by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at SLATER-REGA FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC. 730 W.
