Donora Historical Society seeks volunteers

While their faces are mostly serious, there’s a hint of smirk or two as the women of the Donora Wire Works Nail Mill in 1928 sit in their dirty work dresses and stare out across the decades from a photo — a frozen moment in time. The women, known as the “nail girls,” perched on the wooden bench in their dresses made filthy from grinding the burrs off of nails after they were stamped from wire as they posed for a portrait with their boss and male coworkers.
