Joanne Camino – Northville, Mich.

By obits

Joanne Camino, 85, of Northville, Mich., passed away on Jan. 18, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Joanne was born on April 22, 1938, in Dunlevy, Pa., to Thomas and Margaret Gargan. After graduating from Bellmar High School, she attended Robert Morris Business School. She worked as a secretary for Armco Steel in Pittsburgh, and Palmer McCloskey Law Firm in Charleroi, and as an executive secretary at Standard Oil of Ohio in Cleveland, Ohio. She married her high school sweetheart, Louis Camino, on July 30, 1960. They moved to North Olmsted, Ohio, where they started their family. In 1978, they moved the family to Munster, Ind., where they would make lifelong friendships, filled with many holiday celebrations, ski trips, whitewater adventures and countless trips to Florida. A final move to Northville, Mich., in 1990, completed their journey together. Joanne was fun! She was always surrounded by a group of friends, in high school and as an adult. She is remembered by many for her hearty laugh and sense of humor. She was an avid reader, often staying up all night to finish a good book. She was also a very strategic and at times merciless bridge and gin rummy player. She wouldn’t even let her grandchildren beat her! She was incredibly proud of her three children and six grandchildren. She attended as many sporting events, concerts, recitals and ceremonies as she could. She always joked that every accomplishment was going to be printed in the Hammond Times! Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Louis Camino; her children, Leslie Corrigan (Brian), Christopher Camino (Rose) and Patricia Kuredjian (Raffi); her six grandchildren, Jack and Mary Grace Corrigan, Tommy and Elaina Camino and Jake and Sarah Kuredjian; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Barbara Camino; and nieces, Heather Ruland (Ryan) and Kristen Weinstein (Mark). The family is grateful for all of the love and support they have received throughout this journey. We especially appreciate the kindness shown by employees of Hospice of Michigan, Love Well Home Care and Lehigh Senior Living. Family and close friends will gather for a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Joanne’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
