Ringgold School Board directors clashed over the possibility of restructuring committees and adding a new one that would govern the board and oversee policy.
School board directors engaged in a lengthy discussion during Wednesday’s meeting about the effectiveness of its six committees. The board voted down a motion 3-6 to revise policy No. 005, which includes the committee structure.
Directors Sherrie Garry, Sarah Fine and Carol Flament voted in favor of it. Directors Gale Glanneman, Steve Toprani, Paul Mountain, Heather Wilhelm, Maureen Ott and Jason Briscoe voted against the motion.
Ott spoke out in favor of creating a policy committee to govern the school board.
“I know that successful school boards have this committee,” Ott said.
Director Steve Toprani spoke out against the proposed policy committee.
