Larry ‘Joe’ Borne – Glenville, N.Y., formerly from Charleroi

By obits

Larry R. “Joe” Borne, 66, of Glenville, N.Y., died peace-fully on Dec. 1, 2023, at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, N.Y., after a long illness. Born in Charleroi on Dec. 30, 1956, he was the son of the late Marshall and Audrey Payton Borne. Joe served as an engineman in the U.S. Navy for 15 years, which included serving as a special warfare boat operator performing exclusive missions driving and providing small-caliber gunfire support on Specialized Surface Combatant Craft to secretly infiltrate and exfiltrate Navy SEALs on special operations missions worldwide. Joe retired from the Stratton VA Medical Center, where he worked as a construction safety officer. He was very passionate about his work at the VA, always striving to ensure the safety of staff and the veterans who sought treatment there. He loved camping, fishing, swimming and boating and was at home and at peace in the outdoors. He was also an animal lover, enjoying the many dogs he owned over the years and feeding and watching the birds that would come and go in his yard. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother, Marshall “Butch” Borne; and his sister, Sandra (John) Ballentyne. Joe was survived by his wife, Jacqueline Borne; his daughter, the late Mollie Borne; his sister, Robin Robinson (Don) of Charleroi, Pa.; his nephew, Marshall Usher (Kristen) of Lewis Center, Ohio; his nieces, Dr. Rebecca Robinson of Platte City, Mo., and Jill Christensen (Pete) of Vienna, Va.; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Austin, Owen and Madison Usher and Cece Christensen. He is also survived by several cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at the Stratton VA Medical Center for the excellent care Joe received. Words cannot express our appreciation and gratitude. Per wishes of the family, all services will be held privately, and interment will be held in Belle Vernon Cemetery, Belle Vernon.
