Arlene Dunn, 89, died at home on Dec. 19, 2023, in Birmingham, Ala. Born in McKeesport on Aug. 20, 1934, she was the beloved wife of the late Dwight Dunn and daughter of the late Hugh F. and Grace Klotz Daugherty. Arlene grew up in Christy Park, later moving to White Oak and Elizabeth Township. A 1952 graduate of McKeesport High School, she married Dwight Dunn in 1955 and they raised three children together. Those were busy years with Arlene supporting school and sports activities, often serving as a room mom, den mother or Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church in McKeesport. Arlene started working with PB&S Chemical Company in 1970 as branch secretary and retired in 1993 as the company’s Northeast Regional Manager, rising through the ranks of sales and management over her career. In 1981, she was named the company’s Manager of the Year. During her tenure, she was also active in several trade organizations, including the American Water Works Association, the National Association of Chemical Distributors and the Chemical Association of Pittsburgh, serving as general chairman of their annual Chemical Day event in 1983. Following her retirement, she enjoyed playing golf in the ladies’ nine-holers at Youghiogheny Country Club. She volunteered at McKeesport Hospital, serving on the Junior Committee Board that managed and merchandised the hospital’s gift shop. Arlene loved spending time with her family and friends, vacationing together for many years in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and traveling the U.S. to visit with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dwight Allen Dunn; and her brother, Hugh F. Daugherty Jr. of Atlanta, Ga. She is survived by a daughter, Diane Dunn Caldwell (Burt) of Birmingham, Ala.; and sons, Rand Dunn (Linda) of Richland, Wash., and Todd Dunn (Kimberly) of Wyoming, Del.; grandsons, Brad Dunn (Nicole) of Richland, Wash., Douglas Caldwell (Ashley) of Auburn, Ala., Tanner Dunn of Seattle, Wash., and Logan Dunn of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and granddaughters, Taylor Dunn of West Chester, Pa., and Jocelyn Dunn of Wyoming, Del. She is also survived by four great-granddaughters, Aubrie Peachey, Raegan Dunn and Parker Dunn of Richland, Wash., and Collins Caldwell of Auburn, Ala. Family and friends will hold a celebration of Arlene’s life with burial at Round Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth Township, Pa., at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions to the McKeesport Hospital Foundation, 1500 Fifth Ave., McKeesport, PA 15132.
