Elizabeth Ann ‘Bettie’ Bakewell – Monongahela
Elizabeth Ann “Bettie” Bakewell, 95, of Monongahela, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, in her home with her family by her side. She was born Sept. 1, 1928, in New Eagle, the daughter of Eugene and Mildred Simpson Seaman. Bettie enjoyed being an Avon representative for 50 years and made many lifelong friends. Family was the most important thing to her. Bettie celebrated everything from family dinners to holidays and birthdays and loved decorating the house for each occasion. She made every day special, lived life to the fullest and saw the good in everyone. She spent her time reading and tending to her garden and flowers. Bettie also enjoyed birdwatching in her backyard, which she called the Bakewell Aviary. For many years, you would have seen her walking her Irish setters around town. She is survived by two daughters, Bettie (Herbert Rayne) Seighman and Cathie Podroskey; two granddaughters, Roxann (Terry) Richardson and Beth Ann (Blake) Boyd; granddaughter-in-law, Lindsay (Nick) Karloski; great- granddaughter, Britany (Nathan) Mayernik; three great-grandsons, Terrence Richardson and Dylan and Al Podroskey; three great-great- grandchildren, Kyliegh, Bentlee and Bennett; sister, Sally (Ted) Woods; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and dear friend, Peg Jackson, whom she spent countless hours visiting and talking with on the phone about the neighborhood, hummingbirds and books they have read. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Lewis Bakewell, who died April 23, 2005; son, William Bakewell; grandson, Mark Podroskey; son-in-law, Mark “Podro” Podroskey; brother, Tom Seaman; and beloved Irish setters, Katie, Katie and Molly. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, with the Rev. Kenneth Custer officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
