Elizabeth Borough council unanimously approved a budget without a tax increase and an ordinance to disband the borough’s police department during Tuesday night’s meeting. The 2024 tax millage rate is set at 9.5 which is the same as in 2023. Also passed was a motion to authorize borough Solicitor Gary Matta to advertise an ordinance for the disbandment of the borough police department. The Elizabeth Township Police Department will take over in the borough starting with the second quarter of 2024 while doing the same in West Elizabeth beginning Jan. 1.
