John Hela Jr., 73 of Jefferson Township, Perryopolis, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, in Hillside Manor Personal Care Home, with his sister at his side. He was born Oct. 22, 1950, in Fayette City, son of John Hela Sr. and Julia Lucas Hela. He was a member of Holy resurrection Orthodox Church, Belle Vernon. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He was a member of the American Slovanic Citizens Club of Fayette City, Star Junction Fish and Game Club and was retired from U.S. Steel Clairton Works. He is survived by his sister, Marcia Hela of Mt. Pleasant and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at ELEY-MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME, Fayette City, www.eleymccroryfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, with Father Stephen Gresh officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery, Belle Vernon, PA 15012.
