George Nick Kalamaras – Allenport

George Nick Kalamaras, 79, of Allenport, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Dec. 16, 2023. George was born on Oct. 23, 1944, to the late Michael and Eleftheria Steros Kalamaras. George graduated from Charleroi Area High School in the Class of 1963; he was class president and a letterman in football, baseball, basketball and track. George was inducted into his high school Sports Hall of Fame. Following high school, George attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington. George served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era at the DMZ in Korea. Greek Orthodox by faith, George was a member of St. Spyridon Church in Monessen. George was a volunteer fireman for the Allenport Fire Department and he was a member of American Legion Post 801 in Roscoe. He enjoyed his many years as the basketball and baseball coach for Allenport. George loved camping, hunting and carpentry work and spending time with his beloved family and friends, especially with his family up at the farm. Surviving to cherish George’s memory are his devoted wife of 55 years, Marnie Benedetti; his sons, Daniel Kalamaras and Marc (Denise) Kalamaras; his grandchildren, Nathan, Jenna and Joslyn Kalamaras; his sisters, Mary Mermigas and Georgina Callas; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Kalamaras; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Kalamaras; and his brothers-in-law, Theodore Mermigas and James Callas. Friends and family were received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. Trisagion services were held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023.
