Joseph W. Durka Jr., 77, of Charleroi, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born in North Charleroi on July 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Anna M. Serbak Durka Sr. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Charleroi site. Joseph served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a retired steelworker for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. and its successors for 51 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joann D. Bradica.  He is survived by his wife, Rita Dzyak Durka; and a son, Michael J. Durka, both of Charleroi; his aunts, Sophie Durka Piscitelli and Beatrice Durka; sisters and brother-in-law, Bonnie and David Blake, Paul and Susanne Dzyak and Maureen and Paul Joseph; nephews, Paul Dzyak and John, Jason and Joel Bradica; and many cousins. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Charleroi site, (Those attending are asked to please meet at the church prior to 9:30 a.m.) Memorial contributions can be made to ASPCA Animal Keepers, 485 McGinnis Road, Acme, PA 15616 or to a charity of one’s choice.
