Linda L. Oates – Monongahela

Linda L. Oates, 84, of Monongahela, passed away in Canonsburg Hospital on Dec. 3, 2023. A daughter of the late Oliver and Mildred (Kennedy) Barkby, Linda was born on June 22, 1939 in New Eagle. A graduate of Monongahela High School, she loved watching sports, especially following her children’s and grandchildren’s sports throughout the years. She and her late husband Bill owned and operated the former Fireside Lounge in Valley Inn, Carroll Township. Linda is survived by three sons, William Oates, James Oates and wife Michelle of McMurray and Robert Oates and wife Holly of Monongahela; a daughter, Kimberly Becker and husband Thomas of Eighty-Four; a sister, Mary Alice Boyce of Monongahela; five grandchildren, Jessica (Ethan) Slacks, KaLee and Tyler Oates and Sarah and Thomas Becker Jr.; three step grandchildren, Shane, Brant and Gavin Duda; two great grandchildren Nataleigh and Elaina Slacks; and her faithful dog, Boo Boo. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Oates, who died May 2, 2003; a brother, Harry Barkby; and two sisters, Vernice Phillips and Emma Barkby, who died as an infant. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, any time between 3 and 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at which time a brief service will be conducted by Deacon Alex Poroda.
