Lawsuit accuses police of illegal searches

The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Take Action Advocacy Group against the City of McKeesport, McKeesport Police Department, Allegheny County Police Department and others, accusing officers of using abusive tactics and excessive force toward Black city residents during a Dec. 20, 2020, manhunt for a suspect wanted in the shooting of an officer. The lawsuit, filed Monday afternoon in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, claims McKeesport residents’ Fourth Amendment rights and the Pennsylvania Constitution were violated during the police search.
