Charles Samuel ‘Butch’ Scrip Sr. – Roscoe

Charles Samuel “Butch” Scrip Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Dec. 1, 2023, at the age of 79 at home in Roscoe, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 15, 1944, in Charleroi, son of the late John and Margaret Schneider Scrip. Butch was stationed at the Danang Air Force Base during the Vietnam War, where he served 14 months and received several medals of commendation. He was a member of the Roscoe American Legion, the Slovak Club, the Roscoe Gun Club and the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mitzi Hughes and Patricia Ann Bandini; and one brother John “Buzz” Scrip. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Diane (Webb) Scrip; three children, Charles “Charlie” Scrip Jr. (Len Casilli), Chad Scrip (Jayme) and Shannon Matty (Ryan); and two brothers, Herbert Scrip (Joanne) and Bill Scrip. Also surviving are two grandsons, Kyle and Cameron Scrip; and numerous nieces and nephews. Butch was known for his warm-hearted nature, his contagious laughter and his genuine interest in others. He had a passion for storytelling, and his tales always drew a captivated audience. Whether it was his quick wit or his unwavering strength, Butch had a way of making people feel at ease in his presence. He was an avid hunter and angler and loved to spend time with his family. Family and friends will be received at MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth St., California, Pa., from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023. Funeral services will begin at 5 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Martin officiating. Interment will be private in the Cemeteries of the Alleghenies at a later date.
