Dorothy Ann Gallagher – Charleroi

By obits

Dorothy Ann Gallagher, 88, a lifetime resident of Charleroi, died Nov. 30, 2023, following complications of a long-term illness. Her family was by her side as she went to be with the Lord. Dorothy was born on April 29, 1935, the daughter of late parents Clarence and Mildred Younkin. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; sisters, Irene Cooper (Vernon) and Doris Kusaj (Bruce); and brother, Clarence “Butch” Younkin. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Shauna Soom of Uniontown; granddaughters, Kelsey of Pittsburgh and Olivia of Arlington, Va.; brother-in-law, Vin Gallagher of Sun City West, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy had a long-standing career in the accounting department at various automotive dealerships. She spent many evenings with her favorite groups of friends playing cards, enjoying dinners and keeping up with one another as a member of several card clubs. She belonged to the Mon Valley Quilt Club and was a dedicated volunteer for the Mon Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a parishioner of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish. Dorothy often enjoyed traveling with family and taking cruises to tropical locations. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters and watching all of their achievements. The family would like to thank the staff at Marquis Garden Place and Amedisys Hospice for their gracious care of Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital Auxiliary at www.phhealthcare.org/donate/donate-to-penn-highlands-mon-valley. Family and friends will be received at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, with a celebration of life starting at 4 p.m. Interment will be private.
