Dorothy A Bero, 87, of Smithton, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at Independence Health System Greensburg Hospital, Greensburg, Pa. She was born Nov. 24, 1936, in Van Meter, daughter of the late John and Helen Kushner Behare. Dorothy was a retired bookkeeper for Premier Landscaping and had also worked for Fabco in West Newton and was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Yukon. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the lottery, going to casinos, shopping, and listening to Elvis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob L. Bero; brothers, William, John, Alex, George and Edward Behare; sisters, Helen Scalabrini, Margaret Machupa and Pauline Karbowsky; and sisters-in-law, Joan Todd and Mary Jo Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kihn and husband Philip of Smithton; son, Craig Bero and wife Cathy of Cranberry Township; two grandsons, Jonathon and Ryan Kihn of Smithton; sister, Marlene Pritts and husband Ken of Smithton; goddaughter, Diane Hoenshel of Smithton; sisters-in-law, Barbara Malseed and Susan Dobransky; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at L. L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second St., Smithton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Yukon, with Father David Nazimek as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery, Smithton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Western PA, 575 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue, PA 15202.
