Mary Ann Shaver, 80, of Speers, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Nov. 17, 2023. Born in New Freeport on June 15, 1943, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Milton and Marie Rice Jones. Mary Ann graduated from West Greene High School, Class of 1961. She hunted and enjoyed working on the family farm with her father and Uncle John for many years until she moved to the Mon Valley area. Mary Ann was a school guard and school bus driver for the Charleroi Area School District for over 50 years. She served as the girls softball coach and was the school photographer for many years. She was also a member of multiple bowling leagues and umpired softball and baseball games. She enjoyed traveling across the country in search of covered bridges with her husband David Shaver and spending time with her chocolate lab, Mocha, whom she loved dearly. Mary Ann was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by many. Surviving to cherish Mary Ann’s memory are her son, Gregory (Nancy) Barr; and daughter, Melody (Rory) Gazdick; grandchildren, Justine Barr, Brandon Barr, Blake Carmello and Dalton Carmello; great-grandson, Joshua Calderon; two sisters, Alberta (Ralph) Jones and Rose (Perry) Rowan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, David Shaver; her brother, James Jones; and her two sisters, Nancy Fell and Martha Mae Jones. Friends and family will be received at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022, from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023.
