Jose Antonio “Tony” Menendez, 85, of Donora died on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born April 13, 1938, in San Martin de Laspra, Asturias, Spain. He was the son of the late Manuel and Africa “Freda” Menendez. Tony was a 1958 graduate of Donora High School, after which he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Advertisers Associates as a pressman. He was a benefit member of the Donora Spanish Club and American Legion Post 212. Over the years, Tony served his community in a number of ways. He served on Donora Borough Council for 20 years, as well as The Mon Valley Sewage Authority Board and the Washington County Housing Authority Board. His proudest accomplishment was being an active member of the Mon Valley Leathernecks and volunteering for the Toys for Tots program every Christmas. He cherished the brotherhood of his fellow Marines and his beloved Corps. Once a Marine, always a Marine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina DiPietro Menendez; and his mother-in-law, Julia (Steve) Chider. He is survived by his son, Jason and wife Annie of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Manuel and wife Violet of Dunnigan, Calif.; and sister, Carmelita Fernandez of Madrid, Spain; grandchildren, Joshua, Jessa, Meredith and Madison, as well as grandson, Zachary (Teresa) Jericho of Donora; his beloved twin great-grandsons, Atticus and Ezra; special cousins, the Stoioff family of Donora; numerous nieces, nephews and all of his Jericho grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also, the many, many friends he’s made along the way. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. Funeral service will be at Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc. at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, with Father Robert Hanna officiating.
