Charleroi council agreed to advertise the 2024 preliminary budget Wednesday with little discussion or details about the spending plan.
Councilman Larry Celaschi and Joe Smith, finance committee members, drafted the proposed $3.7 million budget based on the borough’s Strategic Management Planning Program (STMP) plan through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
The borough has been in the STMP plan for four years. Celaschi and Smith had help with the budget from Borough Administrator Roberta Doerfler and the borough’s auditor and they distributed the proposed spending plan during an agenda meeting last week.
The tentative budget does not call for a tax increase and copies of it were distributed to current council members as well as candidates who will join council in January after winning election Tuesday: Kristin Hopkins-Calcek, Tom Santoro, Robert Whiten Jr. and Councilman Jerry Jericho.
