Renee M. Herman Batten, 81, of Monongahela, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023. Renee was born on Aug. 7, 1942, in Brussels, Belgium, a daughter of the late Adolf and Cilly Feiler Herman. At the age of 8 with her family, they moved to the United States. After her graduation in 1960 from Monongahela High School, she earned her associate degree from Point Park College in Pittsburgh. She worked for many years as a medical records transcriptionist for Canonsburg Hospital until her retirement. Renee cherished her time with family and friends. She loved traveling and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was a member of the congregation and sisterhood at Temple Beth Am in Monessen, along with the Monongahela Junior Woman’s Club. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Batten, whom she married June 14, 1964; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Tami Batten of Flemington, N.J.; a daughter, Heather Batten (Paul Adair) of Canonsburg; a brother, George “JoJo” and wife Kathy Herman of Monongahela; and three grandchildren, Ryan Cook Jr. and Devan and Rylee Batten; a nephew, Jeffrey Herman; and her grand dogs, Kobe and Dakota. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Jason Herman. Services were held at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023. Interment was held in Temple Beth Am Cemetery, Monessen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Renee’s name to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or donate.cancer.org.
