Barbara A. Matthews, 87, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, in Havencrest Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. A daughter of the late Joseph and Ann Roskovitch Kudlac, she was born in North Charleroi on Sept. 6, 1936. Formerly of Ellsworth, Barb has been a resident of Belle Vernon for over 60 years. Catholic by faith, she was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. She had been employed by the Washington Township Municipal Authority for 12 years, retiring in 1980. After her retirement, she worked at Uniontown Super K for 10 years in the early ’90s and Belle Vernon Walmart as a cashier for 10 years until 2017. Barb loved helping people and gave to anyone in need, especially children. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Robyn and Robert Roche, with whom she made her home; a son and daughter-in-law, Lt. Col. Robert M. and Karen Matthews of Centerville, Ohio; a brother, Daniel Kudlac of Fredericktown; a sister, Sister Kathy Kudlac; three grandchildren, Robbie (Amber) Roche of Belle Vernon, Riley (James) Cook and Christina Matthews, all of Centerville, Ohio; two great-grandchildren whom she adored, Ryse Roche and Ronan Roche; special cousins, Mike and Dolores Roskovitch; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Matthews, on Aug. 24, 1990; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Ed Zigmond and Judy and Don Evans. Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300. A memorial blessing will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Michael Crookston officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire Anova Hospice staff, especially Audrey and Prina.
