Coleen Christy – Warren, Pa.
Coleen Christy, 82, of Warren, Pa., passed away unexpectedly at UPMC Hamot on Oct. 18, 2023, following a recent illness. Coleen was born on Jan. 14, 1941, in New Eagle, Pa., the daughter of the late James P. and Mary Cowan Gavaghan. She was a graduate of Ringgold High School in New Eagle, Pa., and attended California University of Pennsylvania, where she met her husband, Ron, and they eloped and moved to Warren. Coleen was a head start teacher in Warren, worked for S&H Green Stamps and the New Process Company. She later worked for Templeton Real Estate. In 1986, she established Coleen Christy Real Estate, from which she retired. She was very community orientated in Warren, having volunteered for the Salvation Army, American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. Coleen was a member of the Zonta Club and a member of the Eastern Star-Masonic Temple, where she served as worthy matron. She was a Little League coach, an avid bridge player and a 50-year-plus member of First Presbyterian Church of Warren. Coleen was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. She and her husband, Ron, spent many winters in Florida. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and a friend to many. Coleen is survived by her three sons, Ryan Christy of Warren, Todd Christy and wife Joyce of Warren, and Dean Christy and wife Cathy of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Devon Copley and husband Jordan of Sheffield, Lauren Pellegrino and husband Thomas of Warren, Sawyer Christy of Warren, Dillon and Naomi Christy of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sara Ellis of Pittsburgh, Josh Ellis of Warren, and Natalie Corbin of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren, Colston Copley of Sheffield, Quinn Pellegrino of Warren and Collin and Aiden Ellis of Warren; a brother, Jim Gavaghan and wife Sue of Charleroi, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Coleen was preceded in death on Aug. 30, 2018, by her husband, Ronald E. Christy, whom she married on Aug. 19, 1960, in Frostburg, Md.; and her sister, Mary Jane Sutts. Friends will be received at PETERSON-BLICK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1003 Penna Ave. E. Warren, Pa., from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, and one hour prior to a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market St., Warren, Pa., with the Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
