Serra students honor late classmate

The Serra Catholic High School community is a tight-knit group. More than classmates and colleagues, the Eagles are family and a testament to the phrase that blood is not always thicker than water. The school’s auditorium filled Friday morning for a pep rally before the start of the annual walk-a-thon that benefits a nonprofit or charity each year. The event is always held as before the homecoming football game and festivities. This year, nearly everyone in attendance at the pep really wore blue T-shirts in honor of sophomore Samantha Kalkbrenner, 15, who was tragically killed Sept. 20 when her school van was involved in a crash at the intersection of Richland Avenue and Third Street in Dravosburg.
